Annual and Extraordinary General Meeting Called for August 18, 2003

AMERIGO RESOURCES LTD.  (Vancouver, British Columbia): Amerigo has called its annual and extraordinary general meeting for August 18, 2003.  At the meeting, the shareholders of the Company will consider resolutions to increase the authorized capital of the Company, institute a rotating Board of Directors with a three year term of office, and approve a stock option plan as required by the TSX Venture Exchange. Shareholders will also be asked to approve the appointment of PricewaterhouseCoopers as the new auditors of the Company.  Details of these matters may be found in the Company’s information circular which has been filed on SEDAR.


Amerigo Resources Ltd. is a Canadian junior copper production company currently producing approximately 12,000 tonnes of copper per annum from its MVC operations near Santiago, Chile.  Amerigo is also exploring for Olympic Dam style copper-gold deposits on four properties in the Sault Ste. Marie area of Ontario, Canada.
